Music, food for the soul, savored by the ears

My Hot Musical Recommendation

Music, being such an elemental part of our lives, plays on as the soundtrack of our daily events. And as I was writing today’s thoughts, Kathleen Bird York’s amazing tune “In the Deep” played in my computer.

I bought the album Wicked Little High last spring when she came to NYC to perform. Actually, I bought a few copies and gave them to friends too. Bird York has a touching, alluring voice and her lyrics are rather profound.

So, with her permission, I would like to share with you the video of her song, which some of you may know from the movie Crash, for it plays at the end. It is beautifully haunting.

So, if you click on the link below, you’ll be taken to the video in her website. Make sure you have QuickTime loaded in your computer or it won’t play.  If you don’t have it, download it. It’s worth it.

Wait a minute or two after clicking, as the video has to load.

This song couldn’t apply in any better way to my thoughts in this week’s write-up, which is why I call them “Flying Deep”. Yes, a combination of flying high, and diving deep.

And below are the lyrics of the song.

In The Deep

Thought you had all the answers
to rest your heart upon
but something happens
don't see it coming, now
you can't stop yourself
now you're out there swimming
in the deep

Life keeps tumbling you heart in circles
till you let go
till you shed your pride and you climb to heaven
and you throw yourself off
now you're out there spinning in the deep

(If you want to be given everything
give everything up)

words: bird york  music: bird york and michael becker

Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. It is in the album Wicked Little High, and I highly recommend you get it. It’s Hot! It scores a five out of a five in Amazon’s music section and it’s among the top selling CDs.

Enjoy!
